Songs For Kids is a wonderful non-profit foundation that brings live music to children with health issues. I attended the benefit hosted at the Hotel Cafe on the 19th. Touched and inspired and uplifted by the music and people.

I know I’m super-late (um, when was Christmas again?), but here are some pics from this year’s HoHotel Holiday Benefit. No links (didn’t get everyone’s name, ack, and compy is multitasking on YT so gotta hurry and post), just names and love for the wondrous people who help make the season live.

Really, YouTube? What in the actual ****?
Oh, hell no. Upload time just increased to 328.
Could everyone in the world just log out of YT for 15 minutes? I swear, I’ll love you forever and blow you kisses and wash your socks. Eww…. not that desperate, but you get my frustration, right?
It’s just one. Damn. SIX minute video. Why do you hate me?
If I have to sit here until the...

HoHotel 2009 was a benefit concert for the L.A. Firefighter’s Spark of Love Toy Drive. It’s a beautiful musical tradition that has been hosted by The Hotel Cafe for 10 years. I’ve only been attending since ‘07, but I’m always enthralled by the music and love I encounter every year.
The following brief display of photos shows the artists as my old little camera could...
I have a ton of photos from the last couple of days. Not to mention around a dozen videos. Music, music, music.
For the pics, it’s just a matter of editing/resizing and deciding which ones to use. The vids are another thing….YouTube takes about 3-4 hours to upload one 5 minute video. And seeing as how it’s already after two in the morn….nah.
This year’s HoHotel was...
About a month ago, I took advantage of my mom’s rekindled love of her vinyl collection and captured a few of our old holiday favorites. Didn’t have my newer camera with me, so used my old one (with the crack/black leaky LCD splotch across the display). It still takes photos, you just have to guess when it comes to lining up a shot. There are so many records, even holiday ones, but I...

December 6th was also the Free the Slaves benefit (at the Hotel Cafe), a wonderful night of music and good will for a great cause. Stellar line-up and special guests made it a memorable time.
First up was Sorry, Nelson — a bilingual jazz fusion band with lots of soul.
Next was Buddy, always upbeat with spare vocals and wondrous energy.
Parker Ainsworth was a treat. He’s...

I heard Michael Kiwanuka play for the first time on the 6th at the Hotel Cafe. Had listened to “Tell Me a Tale” a bunch of times, and was really looking forward to hearing more.
Pictures came out sorta fuzzy but he was amazing. His voice was pure soulful energy.
Buy his music here.

Saw Rachael Yamagata on November 29th at the Troubadour. Totally sold-out show, so I had absolutely no chance to get up front or even sit in the upstairs pews. All of my pictures were taken from the loft, behind a plate of glass. Eventually, I went downstairs for the final 4 songs, and loved every moment.
Wanna know how crowded it was, and how grateful I am for zoom? Okay.
Not so bad,...

fuckyeahpaganism:
Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am diamond glints on the snow. I am sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush, I am the swift uplifting rush, Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry.

I’ve been crying for three and a half hours.
All the way from the exam room to the cashier to my car to my mom’s. Water.
My head hurts. My eyes are puffy globs of pain. And my face is raw from salt. I’m ugly and a mess and I don’t care.
I tried to stop the tears with a cold wet towel over my eyes, but the thoughts kept coming. Visions and memories of my beautiful dog....
