This is not my question. Simply an interesting glimpse into a life of determination. I just smiled to myself imagining Tommy Walter jumping out in costume to scare themepark-goers or singing into his phone to playback the melodies on his answering machine. I’ve talked to him a couple of times; he seems so mild-mannered and retiring. I couldn’t place the images together in my brain...
After the benefit on Saturday, I talked with Cary Brothers for a bit. At one point, I told him that I didn’t take a single photo because I didn’t know if he’d mind me “putting the spotlight on him and not the cause”, or something. The vibe of the room was weird and off-putting for me to draw extra attention to myself. It was something I’ve done a few times; want...

Because we could all use a dash of cute in our lives sometimes. Once again with the Viewmaster slides. Career aspirations of our favorite puppet-boys/monsters.
Never doubt the power of your dreams.

Checked the mail yesterday and got a package from Terra Naomi. I’d pledged for her new album release and My Friend’s Place, and one option was for a special treasure from Color Me Mine. This little pup was a perfect birthday gift. I now have a dog in my apartment. :)
The name that popped into my head was “Violet”, but it might be temporary. The personality of the...

Birthday Shuffle
I let my iTunes shuffle around and made a list of the first 27 songs it played. Lots of alternative rock, pop, r&b/soul, and inspirational. It ended perfectly. Hooray for egotistical birthday practices!
“Falling Day”, Kaki King
“Patron Saint of Strippers”, Terra Naomi
“Velocity Girl” (Sell Out Edit), Snow Patrol
“Plenty”, Sarah McLachlan

Cocoa had surgery 4 days ago to remove her right eye. It’s sutured shut, and must remain so for two weeks while she heals. The day of her surgery, my mom and mid sis dropped her off and stayed briefly while she was checked in to the specialist clinic. I opted to have her spend the night in the nearby critical care center, just in case she had any issues afterward.
The next day, I picked...

My oldest sister and Cocoa, January 14, 1996.
I loved watching the color of my dog’s eyes change as she grew. From grayish baby-blue to steel gray to hazel with gray in the middle to full light brown.
Tomorrow is the day of her surgery. Her right eye will be removed to alleviate her pain and any future problems with glaucoma. I find myself looking into her eyes, knowing she can’t...

Andy Clockwise (http://andyclockwise.net) is brilliant. I first saw him play The Hotel Cafe a little over a year ago for the annual Spark of Love Toy Drive benefit concerts. When I returned a few months later to see him play a full set, the light fixtures were swung by patrons and the man himself walked on a few tables that night. It was amazing and insane and perfect rock.
He played the El Rey...

Thrilled that I got to see Abandoned Pools last night at the El Rey. Arrived just 10 minutes before Tommy Walter and his band took the stage. Pictures didn’t come out great, but just expierencing the music was enough to make me happy. Older faves “Flourescein” and “The Remedy” along with new faves “We Can Be Quiet Now” and “Legionnaire” were...

#i never even got to know my father before he was tragically eaten by dragons
My older brother was bitten by a Peruvian Vipertooth. Never stood a chance. The venom got to him just too quickly.
I believe it was a great philosopher who said, “Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.”

Music Makes Me Fly
Okay, not really. But I did fly all the way to New York for the first time just to experience a Holiday Hop. I hadn’t been on a plane in 4 years. How did this happen?
Ingrid Michaelson had a show at the Troubadour in November that I really wanted to attend. However, my auto insurance company —bastards that they are— were having trouble figuring out how to charge my credit card...
