I saw Joseph Arthur (http://josepharthur.com) play the Troubadour (as a birthday present to me from me). It was my first time seeing him live —singing and painting— so I was quite surprised when I noticed the general standing area was filled with chairs. Onstage, there was a completed painting and a blank canvas for that night’s piece.
During the evening, he alternated between...

Speaking of MJ....
This was in 2009, the Friday night after MJ’s passing. My mid sis and I went out for dedication karaoke and sang “I Want You Back”. (Wasn’t our first choice, but we got there late and everything else was spoken for. The sound system was booming. We are not sopranos or pre-pubescent boys, so you can imagine how the high notes sounded.) This guy was incredible. MJ...

December 10, 2010. Attended my first Holiday Hop while on my first trip to New York. The clip is intentionally short for 2 reasons: wanted to be able to Tumblr it, and didn’t want people behind me to clobber me for keeping my arms in the air during the entire song and spoiling their view. That’s all. :)
The song is “You and I” by Ingrid Michaelson. Lyrics source:...

Eye Worry
Cocoa’s right eye and rumpled fur after a good nap.
Ocular pressure = financial woe.
Pain in my dog = pain in my soul.
Glaucoma = uber suckfest.
I’ve got a mild headache and tightness in my stomach just thinking about things. I’d like to not take this so badly, but I’m the one financially responsible for Cocoa and I have to think about this sooner rather than later.

Shape Up
Thanks to sadierex, lately I’ve become preoccupied with finding out my face shape. I’ve used a flexible tape measure from a sewing kit to assess my proportions: width of my cheekbones, width of my forehead, height of my face from chin to hairline. I’ve Googled several methods and have come up with a few outcomes: Oval, Oblong/Rectangular, Heart/Diamond.
This is me and my...

Zen Cynic: Navigation →
zen-cynic:
Once again, he beheld a confusing intersection of roads. He wasn’t sure which way would be most promising. After all, he didn’t know where he wanted to go. “Wait, I have a method to avoid defining my goals,” he remembered. As a child, for each path he would have simply asked, “Why not go…
My life would be so simple if there was no such thing as planning. You do, or...

Lap Lies
I’m sick of hearing those stupid lap band commercials on the radio. I barely listen to the radio anymore, but one of my co-workers had hers on at her desk.
“I went from a size 18 to a size 3. I love that I can finally buy clothes that fit me.”
Sweetie, where the hell were you shopping? If you’re a size -5 or a size 38, you’re gonna find something to wear that...

Pass the Buttah
Just watched this slideshow about the 30 Saltiest in Fast Food, and was shocked to find a meal I’d ordered when eating at Red Lobster a few years ago.
I’d been trying to watch my calorie intake, so I opted for the healthy-sounding Shrimp & Salmon with rice pilaf and broccoli. Ate most of it. Mentally patted myself on the back for being so “good” while my sisters...
Break the Seal
One of my favorite things from childhood….so cool, I never used it. Brilliant.
I have a bad habit that my middle sister recently pointed out to me: I don’t use new things. Or, it takes me forever to begin using something new if I really like it. “You’re so afraid of messing things up! Just use it!”
Mostly, this applies to clothing, shoes, make-up, and handbags. I...
Liner Notes
I do that a lot. Always have. I think it’s just an unconscious facial expression.
I’m starting to notice fine lines on my forehead. Twenty-plus years of looking surprised has finally caught up with me.
Darn you, eyebrows.
